Prep: In a close-knit circle, intimidate your fellow players with competitive looks, narrowed eyes and cunning smiles, before jumping backwards (to create a larger circle) with a super Ninja noise and action that clearly says “I’m the Master!”

Rules: Each Ninja Apprentice must take turns – Clockwise. The aim is to hit another Ninja Apprentice on the hand (arm does not count!). When hit, you’re out. You have one move to attack and you can attack in any direction. Anyone being attacked has one defense move. In between, you stay a statue- no false moves, no slacking when your position is hard on your thighs: You’re a Ninja remember! The last one standing is Master Ninja and is therefore naturally thoroughly admired and respected by all Ninja Apprentices.

Now Play!: This is a game of focus; of quick responses; of misleading looks. It is a game of the mind, but with exquisitely photogenic physicality. It is a game that when taken by, is far far more than a game. Forget time checks and tiredness and questions of what’s for dinner; when in the zone, all else is but feeble past fancies. When you take on the power of the Ninja you are aware of every hand, every move, every weakness. It is a silent war zone, a battle of concentration, a dance of body and mind. To be a Ninja is to be smooth, quick, beautiful; and anyone can become one! Young, old, male, female, English, Indian, permed and dreadlocked- all can enjoy the thrill of entering the mind of a Ninja. But there can only be one Master. Could that be you?… Image
